The proposed MA in Social Design (MASD) is planned to be housed at MICA Place, the College’s new center for community arts and social design located in East Baltimore. It will allow for the expansion of MICA’s decade-long leadership in these areas of study and aligns with our vision of working in and with a community.

The facility will also be the home to MICA’s MA in Community Arts (MACA) and newly launched MFA in Community Arts (MFACA). Both programs serve visual artists who wish to pursue careers in art-based community development. In addition to MASD, social design initiatives such as Center for Design Practice (CDP) and Design Coalition (DC) will utilize the space in different capacities. MICA Place includes studio classrooms, a computer lab, seminar and exhibition spaces, and graduate student apartments—allowing for an authentic live/work opportunity for prospective students.
